Obituary

Robert McAleese (Bob, Daddy, Pop Pop, Old Gimp, Old Goat), 95, passed away peacefully August 25th, 2024, surrounded by love and loved ones. Bob was born July 1, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA. He spent his young childhood in Pittsburgh (until the Pirates broke his heart in 1938), moved back to Olney where he met his wife of 64 years, Real, raised a family in the Northeast, and spent his later years in Warminster, PA. He was compassionate, brilliant, impatient, selfless, funny, and loving.

Bob played many roles in his life – master sergeant in the Army in his 20s, lineman and field supervisor at PECO for 35 years, Juniata County mountain trailer mate, group poker organizer, sergeant god to the roothogs harvesting his 100+ tomato plants, furniture maker, food slipper to all dogs, incredible friend to many, husband & caretaker for his wife, father to his children, and pop pop to his grandchildren.

A staunch advocate of women's rights, workers' rights, animal conservation, economic justice, and voting, he was not just on the right side of history, but lightyears ahead of his time in thought and action.

Bob loved fun facts, baseball, elephants, oysters, pennies, golf, mandatory dessert, his time at the trailer, local newspapers, opening presents, all dogs (which are considered humans), 5:30pm calls, nicknames for everyone he met, "inspecting the back of his eyelids," woodworking, and, above all, his family — Tuan, Suzie, Johnny, Robbie, Sweetheart, McGregor, and Buffalo Head.

He'll be remembered for always having a song to play off a word you said, a quick-witted joke for every occasion, for jangling his keys when he was ready to leave, and for his immense capacity for joy, love, and generosity.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Winnie and John, son Robbie, and wife Aurelia. He is survived by his children, Sue (Bill) Custren and John, and grandchildren, Marissa, Greg, and Danny, all of whom will miss him dearly. He truly was the GOAT.
