Olimpia H.
Tranzilli
Apr 2, 1931 — Nov 24, 2024
Olimpia H. Tranzilli (nee: DeCristofano), age 93, formerly of Germantown (Philadelphia), passed away on November 24, 2024. Olimpia was born in Volterra, Italy on April 2, 1931; dear Daughter of the late Michaelangelo DeCristofano and the late Giovanina DeCristofano (nee: Sarno); beloved Wife of the late Noble Tranzilli Jr.; loving Mother of Agnes T. (William) Arkus, Marisa T. (Thomas) Green, Francis P. (Patricia) Tranzilli, Michael S. (Colleen), Tranzilli, and the late Noble M. Tranzilli; dear Sister of the late Michelina Pedicino, Margherita Feo, and Valentino DeCristofano; beloved Grandmother of Brian, Laura, Tommy, Cheryl, Megan, Alexandra, David, Erica, Lauren, Frankie, Dominic, Mckenna, and Cristofano; also survived by 13 Great-Grandchildren.
Mom was affectionately called Nina by her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She relished the role of being a grandmother to all 26 of these children and played an important role in their lives. She was present at their baptisms, First Holy Communions, Confirmations, High School and College Graduations. Nina's special touch for all of these events was her cooking. Mom made the meatballs, lasagna, gravy, cookies and everything needed to make the celebration a truly Italian party! Both her Ricotta and Apple Butter cookies were major staples at our celebrations! When Nina's granddaughters made their First Holy Communion, she went with them to help select their white dresses! She had to check everything out – making sure that the workmanship was of the best quality.
Mom was very particular in many areas. Some of these included whenever you would cook, the pots had to be heated before adding the oil to make the sauce. Then, add the onion, followed by garlic. And, if you were in her way, she would elbow you to move so she could do whatever she needed to do. However, the important ingredient when cooking was her saying - "You need to put some love into it."
Both Mom and Dad valued education, and they put all five of their children through college, a tremendous feat for Italian immigrants. And, because of their strong belief, their children have followed their example and put all her grandchildren through college, although Dominic, Mckenna and Cristofano are not there yet. Mom and Dad lived the American dream for they owned and operated their own business – Tranzilli's Real Italian Water Ice and it was well known in the Germantown community.
Mom would always get the cuchara if someone misbehaved. If a child didn't finish his meal, she would say – "Don't waste God!" She LOVED getting dressed up for every occasion and she was truly a fashionista! Her favorite color was purple, and she loved cheetah prints and you would see these in her wardrobe!
The legacy of one is how they have touched others. Mom was truly a wonderful mother and grandmother. Yet, her love went beyond her family. Many friends of her children and grandchildren knew Nina and her love for cooking. Mom's dishes were always requested by these friends, including her grandchildren's sports teams, mainly the football teams of North Penn and Garnet Valley.
We lost a cherished person whose memories will continue to fill us with her love as we journey through life without her presence here on earth.
