Michael C.
Woods
Jul 15, 1946 — Oct 11, 2025
Michael Charles Woods, age 79, went home to be with the Lord on October 11th 2025, surrounded by the love of his Family.
Michael was the son of the late James J. Woods II and the late Iola Jane Woods (nee: Avinger) of Somerton, also predeceased by his stepmother, Margaret "Peg" Woods (nee: Chester).
He was the dear brother of James "Chip" Woods (predeceased), MaryEllen Green, Ralph Weber (Erlina), Stephen Woods (Ann Marie), Peter Woods (Maggie McNeill), and Margaret "Bugs" Gosnear (predeceased).
Michael was the most devoted father to his 5 "kiddos"- Kathleen Kratz (James), Patricia Sharp (Brandon), Michael Woods (Jill), Suzanne Whillis (David), and Michelle Woods, each who would say they won life's lottery having him as their father… and Dad sure did love the Lottery.
Michael was affectionately known to his nine grandchildren (James, Isabella, Tanner, Kellen, William, Michael, Emma, Kiran, and Mohana) as "Pop"/"Grandpop"/"Pop Pop"/the "OG". His presence in their lives was steadfast, and he never missed an opportunity to proudly boast about them to any available listener. They will remember him best for his loving smile, attentive ears, and wise words.
Michael's love for God and our country was exemplified through his service as a soldier in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1966 to 1969. He served as a radio engineer, protecting his brotherhood and keeping planes alit during the Vietnam campaign. Though he was decorated with multiple medals, his most revered award from the USMC was his lifelong best friend, Fred Monaghan.
Following in his father's footsteps, Michael enjoyed a career in office supply sales. Later in life, he pursued other ventures in real estate, sales, etc., focused on providing for his family whom he always put first.
Michael had a remarkable way with words. He loved hearing a story almost as much as he loved sharing one. In retirement, he spent his days fishing, managing stocks, and enjoyed puzzling through daily doses of Crosswords, Cryptograms, and Jeopardy. In his words, " I have a nice day just about every day of my life."
Michael kept things simple. He was a humble man of faith, integrity, and perseverance. His perpetual smile and reliable optimism had a positive influence on all around him. He would remind us often, "Life gets neater and neater."
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM Friday October 17th, 2025, at St. Christopher R.C. Church, 13301 Proctor Road (N. of Byberry Rd.), Phila, PA 19116. Interment and Military Honors following Mass at Forest Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, we ask you to share kind words often, be helpful where needed, and look for random acts of kindness, just like Michael would
