Obituary

Mary Jane Vitola (nee: Galante), age 94, of North Wales, formerly of Philadelphia. passed away at her home on July 24, 2025.

Born on April 26, 1931, to Cesare and Elise Galante, Mary Jane was the second of three children, growing up with her two brothers, Peter and Robert, in a bustling household that cherished their Italian heritage. Mom grew up in Philadelphia, attended Kinsey Elementary School, Wagner Jr High School, and graduated from Germantown High School in 1949. Mary Jane excelled in her studies and extracurricular activities, performed in the High School Color Guard, and served as Student Council President and as President of her graduating class. On April 11, 1953, she married the love of her life, Louis Concezio Vitola. Mary was a devout Catholic, lived a simple and fruitful life, laying down roots with 6 children, giving way to a family tree branching out with fifteen grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. Mary Jane relished cooking, a passion ignited in her early years alongside her parents, preparing traditional Italian meals that became the centerpiece of family gatherings. These meals, especially during holidays, brought together family and friends, creating joyful memories etched forever in their minds. Mary Jane's early career started as a PBX operator for Bell Telephone where she was commended for exceptional work. Shortly after her marriage she began her full-time job raising 6 children. When more time became available, Mary took on part time jobs at Gimbels, Samples&, and Claire Insurance. When they moved to Clearfield Pa for other employment, Mary volunteered helping patients at the local hospital. She moved to Ponte Vedra Beach Florida upon Lou's job transfer, and Mary went on to earn her real estate license. They both retired in Florida, but moved back to Pennsylvania in 2004, living at their current residence in North Wales. Mary stayed in touch with her high school friends throughout her life and developed many more friendships along her life journey. She was creative with knitting, crocheting, sewing, and dressmaking, and she and her children were always well dressed. She had a fondness for dogs, cats, and birds of all kinds. She also loved gardening, growing flowers and vegetables. She had a great sense of humor and loved music and dance. She also liked to sing, as a member of the church choir, as well as just for fun. Some of her favorite artists included Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Andrea Bocelli, and Luciano Pavarotti. She also loved Opera and Theater, and of course movies, her favorite being Out of Africa. Mary leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and cherished memories. Her life was a beautiful tapestry of devotion to family, faith, and the simple joys that made her happy.
