Louis Di
Criscio
Oct 16, 1933 — Dec 11, 2025
Louis Di Criscio, age 92, passed away on December 11, 2025 at Lutheran Community at Telford. Louis was born in Riccia, Italy on October 16, 1933; dear son of the late Donato Di Criscio and the Giovanna Di Criscio (nee: Bozza); beloved Husband of the late Filomena (nee: Carosella); loving Dad of Joanna Sipple, Rita Di Criscio, Louis (Nova Ahrens) Di Criscio Jr., and Philip Di Criscio; dear Brother of Paolo, Carmela, and the late Michele, Domenico, and Antonio Di Criscio; beloved Pop Pop of Philip John, Jennifer and Jade.
Luigi was born in Riccia, a small town in the Molise Province in Italy, nestled along the Apennine Mountains. His youth was spent working on the family farm to help provide for his family as all of the children were expected to do. While he rarely talked about it, he was witness to fighting and casualties between the German and Allied Forces during WWII. By the time Luigi reached his teen years, he longed to leave the family farm and go to America. There was one catch, however. He had to show up stateside by the time he turned 18 to claim his US citizenship which his father had earned for himself and any current or future children he had as a reward for serving in the US Army during one of the trips he made to the US to provide for his family back in Italy. So, at the age of 17, Luigi sailed to America alone in steerage class after his family received word from another local family that had already gone to America, that they would take Luigi in until he got on his feet.
Luigi had a great two first days in his new hometown of Glenside, PA. On his third day, his host woke him up at 5:30AM to go to work with him as a laborer - Welcome to America! Luigi, stayed with this construction company his entire life, becoming a very accomplished stone mason and foreman that was responsible for many masonry structures in the PA/NJ/DE area including numerous churches and even expansions to Princeton University. He was the lead mason for the reconstruction of the Italian Gardens section of the famed Longwood Gardens in Kennet Square, PA and was very proud of that work.
Luigi met his beloved wife, Filomena, at a gathering of friends one night after an English class at Central High School in Philadelphia. One of the girls in the class brought her friend Filomena, and the rest was history. They were married for over fifty years until Filomen's passing in 2007.
Luigi was very fond of his garden. No matter where he lived, he was always proud to have the biggest garden in the neighborhood. He was also very proud of his three very large fig trees that he would bury in the winter time so that they would survive in a climate in which they were not meant to live. He would resurrect them from the ground again in the spring and enjoy their fruit all summer long. As the trees got to be 15-18feet tall, this was no easy task. After the task was complete, it was time for a cold Schaefer beer!
As Luigi's eyesight waned, he learned to enjoy the sounds of Phillies baseball on the radio or a book that he could listen to on the audio machine he got from the county Blind Association. He made lots of friends at the Blind Association and it gave him some comradery in his later years.
Luigi passed surrounded in his last days by his family in a room filled with love. He left behind a legacy of a lifetime of hard work that he instilled in his family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Friday, December 19, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 am., followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 am., at St. Luke the Evangelist Church, 2316 Fairhill Avenue (at Easton Road), Glenside, PA 19038. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
