Obituary

Karl von Lipsey (Sr.), age 89, was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was also an accomplished golfer, an avid gardener, and enthusiastic fisherman. Born in Memphis, TN in 1925, Karl was a caring and compassionate person who served his country and community in many ways. He joined the Army Air Corps just prior to the end of WWII, was trained as a Criminal Investigator and received an honorable discharge as a Corporal in 1946. Upon moving to Philadelphia, PA Karl met and married Mary-Elizabeth White in 1950, and had two sons. He also began a long and distinguished career in law enforcement, starting with the Philadelphia Police Department, where he served from 1950 through 1963 primarily as a Homicide Detective. In 1963 Karl joined the US Treasury Department, IRS Criminal Investigation Division, and worked in varying capacities from Special Agent through Group Manager. At Treasury he was primarily involved with investigations of white collar and financial crimes. Stemming from an early interest in radio and television technologies, Karl became an electronic surveillance and countermeasures expert and conducted field investigations against organized crime and racketeering activities throughout the United States and its Territories. He retired from law enforcement in November 1983 and started a commercial detective agency with his son Karl Jr., Access Security Agency Inc. that operated in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, focusing its business in investigations involving business deception, computer crimes and insurance fraud. After his wife of more than 50 years passed away in 2004, Karl Sr. joined the Foulkeways retirement community in Gwynedd, PA. He is survived by two sons, Karl Jr. of Philadelphia, PA, and Roderick of Washington, DC; and four grandchildren, Elizzabeth Beil of Chattanooga, TN; and Kai, Alec and Derek von Lipsey of Washington, DC. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 9:00 to 10:00 am., followed by Funeral Mass at 10:00 am., at St. Genevieve's Church, 1225 Bethlehem Pike, Flourtown, PA 19031.
