Gloria Starr Redfield was born, raised and educated in Philadelphia where she attended Germantown High School for Girls. After leaving high school Gloria worked as a Bell Telephone Operator, which is where she met the love of her life, Louis R Guzzi, originally from Old Forge, PA. Lou was an installer for Western Electric and met Gloria upon working in Philadelphia at one of his work sites. That was the start to a wonderful courtship, and in 1955 they were married at her parents' home on Weaver Street. Happily married, they enjoyed each other's company and watching their two kids grow up. During those early years the family lived on Forrest Ave in the West Oak Lane section of Philadelphia, only a few blocks away from her parents.

After trying for a child for 5 years, they were blessed with adopting a daughter, Susan Florence Guzzi, whom they named after Gloria's mother and grandmother. Happily, soon afterwards, Gloria was thrilled to find out that she was expecting a child. Louis David Guzzi, born in 1961, was named after her husband and father.

Gloria was a homemaker, and her life was fulfilled by taking care of her children. She enjoyed many years of singing in the choir at Cedar Park Presbyterian Church along with her husband. She was the soprano, and he sang tenor like her favorite singer, Mario Lanza, who strikingly looked a lot like her husband. As her children attended school, Gloria started to sell Avon to make some extra money. She enjoyed this profession and was an Avon representative for over 50 years. She involved all her children and grandchildren in this activity and the perks were some great products.

In 1978, Gloria and Lou's first grandchild, Heather Marie, was born, and they were very instrumental in raising her. One of Heather's favorite things was to be with her grandparents. Eventually, they were blessed with four more grandchildren: Stephanie Ann, Amber Diana, Brandon Alexander and Crystal Anitra; the baby of the family. Gloria enjoyed being a grandmother and she loved taking the grandchildren for breakfast at the Pike Restaurant, where she and Lou were regulars. Many years later she was also blessed to become a great grandmother to Zachary, Kody and Hope.

In 1980, Gloria and Lou moved to Flourtown, PA. Gloria continued to sell her Avon and enjoyed the suburban lifestyle with a much bigger yard to relax in and to watch the abundance of nature around her.

Gloria and Lou enjoyed witnessing the marriage of their son, Lou, and their new daughter-in-law, Laurie, in a beautiful wedding ceremony at St Paul's Lutheran Church in Glenside, PA in September of 1982. It was a very special occasion as Gloria's father, Homer, was able to attend his grandson's wedding along with their daughter, Susan, as a bridesmaid and their granddaughter, Heather, as the flower girl.

In December of 1990, along with their son, Lou, their daughter-in-law, Laurie, and the Rosato family, they opened Scoogi's Classic Italian Restaurant in Flourtown, PA. There, Gloria enjoyed working as the bookkeeper and chatting with customers throughout the day.

In 1992 they moved into a brand new beautiful custom home in Maple Glen, PA. Sadly, Gloria lost the love of her life nine years after the move but continued to enjoy her home for the rest of her life.

Her life was her faith in God, her family, her friends and all the little critters that would come to visit in the morning and in the evening on her deck at home for some special treats. "The Guys" as she called the squirrels, were her absolute favorite to watch. She enjoyed feeding them peanuts and filling the bird bath for all her winged friends.

During her later years there is no doubt that Verizon Wireless was her pipeline to the world. Phone, Internet and TV would fill up her daily schedule. MC Music would play all morning long, followed by Facebook, Solitaire and many other games on her computer. Later in the evenings, she looked forward to sitting in her comfy Lazy Boy Chair for reruns of Colombo, Perry Mason, Baretta, Match Game 75, 76, 77 and much, much more.

She also was an avid Trump supporter. She used to say she was "working for Trump" as she sent many emails to everyone as an informer to those listening to the Fake News! Sadly, she also lost a few friends along the way but was happy to be able to cast her last vote ever in a Presidential Election and was thrilled to see Trump win!

She was a very strong-willed woman who survived everything from the bomb scares of her youth during World War II to worries about the long ongoing war in Vietnam. She did things "her way" and always bragged about being an independent person, making it to 90 years of age, without much help or medications.

Mom would tell us all the time that she had a wonderful life, totally fulfilled, with no regrets. At 91, she was happy with all she had experienced and had said she was looking forward to being in Heaven with the Lord, along with her husband, family and friends that had passed before her. Her love, strength, vigor, strong will and faith in God is what we will remember most.

Although she will be greatly missed, we are at peace, knowing that her last wish was to be at home during her final days. Now, it is time to celebrate a life well-lived and to remember all the joy she has given to so many people.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her visitation on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, from 9:30 to 11:00am., folllowed by her Funeral Service at 11:00 am., at the ANGELONE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA  19090 .
