Obituary

"Life is all about your relationships."

-Dan Hugenbruch

Daniel Joseph Hugenbruch, 47, of Lansdale, passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Dan was the beloved husband of Danielle DiPasquale and devoted father of Emilia and Eloise. His legacy as a teacher and coach of generations of Cardinals and Trojans at the Upper Dublin and Wissahickon School Districts will continue to shape the lives of those who were privileged to know him.

Born in Reading on September 2, 1977, Dan was the son of Leslie (Pfeiffer) Hugenbruch and David Hugenbruch and the loyal brother of Laurie (Ward) and David Hugenbruch. A proud graduate of Cocalico High School, Dan attended Bloomsburg and earned his bachelor's degree in education from Millersville University. Throughout his school years, his sense of mischief, his athletic accomplishments, and, above all, his warm and caring nature, earned him the devotion of an ever-growing circle of lifelong friends.

After graduating, Dan embarked on a remarkable career in education. His dedication to educating and learning was such that he earned his two master's degrees from Saint Joseph's University.

Teaching technology in a variety of courses, Dan used a mix of hands-on learning and old-fashioned leadership to inspire his students, who delighted in learning from him. Dan's particular brand of teaching through problem-solving was so original that his style earned the loving moniker of 'Dan-gineering' from those around him. During a time of rocketing growth in the breadth and importance of technology education, Wissahickon High School entrusted Dan with the honor of a lifetime: the responsibility of transforming the school's technology education curriculum and facilities. Dan's contributions in this area helped his fellow teachers to embrace new technologies and become more effective educators.

Dan's impact on his community reached far beyond the classroom.  His love of sports led him to coach football, basketball, track, golf, and baseball at many age levels. Dan taught the value of teamwork, resilience, and leadership both on and off the field. With dedication, he instilled in countless young athletes that true growth comes from collaboration, hard work, thoughtfulness, and supporting one another.

Though Dan will be loved and remembered for his work in the community, he would be the first to say that his roles as husband and father were his true calling in life. While teaching in the Upper Dublin School District, Dan struck up a friendship with Ms. DiPasquale, a new English teacher in the classroom next door. It wasn't long before Dan and Danielle realized they were much more than friends. Their wedding was a perfect blend of family, friends, and faith.

Dan was fortunate that marriage to Danielle meant belonging to a whole new family.  He embraced his role as big brother to Danielle's sisters, Gina and Angela, and he loved spending time with Tony and Val, her parents, and the entire DiPasquale clan. The couple soon welcomed two wonderful daughters, Emilia and Eloise, now 11 and 9 years old. With Stella, the family dog, barrelling in after them, the household became one filled with laughter, learning, and steeped in the values of family and love.

Tough as he was on the football field, Dan was a tender, supportive, and endlessly proud father. Dan encouraged his daughters to try everything: sports, music, art, travel, gardening, and, of course, great food. Whether splashing in the pool, building memories at the beach, setting out on boat rides, or letting loose during kitchen dance parties, Dan reveled in sharing life's joys with Emmy and Eloise. In those moments, he gently showed them that happiness is found not in doing things perfectly, but in embracing the fun, the mistakes, and the unexpected turns that make life meaningful.

Whether with family, friends, students, or players, it is Dan's dedication to building relationships that everyone will remember best. Dan understood that while accomplishments, possessions, and milestones matter, what ultimately gives life richness and depth are the bonds we nurture with others; our well-being is shaped by the people we love, trust, and grow with. His lessons will live on in the lives he touched, inspiring us all to carry forward the spirit of unity and perseverance he embodied. We ask that when, under Friday night lights, you taste that first sip of bourbon, play Uno, order a cheesesteak, or your blood pressure increases during the fourth quarter of an Eagles game, please think of Dan and smile.

In addition to Danielle, Emmy, and Eloise, Dan is survived by his parents Leslie (Pfeiffer) Hugenbruch and David Hugenbruch (Mei); his siblings David (Jan Hughes-Austin) and Laurie Ward (Joseph); his nieces and nephew Megan, Michael, and Madison Ward; his grandfather Alfred Pfeiffer, Sr.; his stepsiblings Robert (Hannah) and Edward Arthur; as well as a host of loving in-laws, aunts, uncles and cousins.
