Carmen V.
Adjip
Mar 23, 1960 — Apr 12, 2021
Carmen V. Adjip (nee Jones) was born at Misericordia Hospital in Philadelphia on March 23, 1960. Carmen was raised in the Wynnfield area of Philadelphia on Montgomery Avenue where she forged many lifetime relationships with the Montgomery Avenue Crew. She was educated in the Public School System and graduated from Girls High School. In 1982, she graduated from the University of Pittsburgh, earning a degree in Bachelor of Science. While pursuing her degree at the University of Pittsburgh she also earned her Realtor license. In 1981, she pledged and became a proud sister of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc .
After college, Carmen worked at various positions. While working as a leasing agent for Chestnut Hill Village Apartments (for almost 10 years), she met her husband Raymond Adjip in 1991. For 17 years she worked as a Social Worker with the City of Philadelphia's Department of Human Services. She retired in 2019. During her career she showered love on children that needed kindness and an extra caring hand. Carmen was a ray of light and a source of hope for these children.
Carmen loved life and always looked forward to having family and friends over for the holidays, birthdays, graduations and other gatherings. She had a sharp wit and loved to laugh! She enjoyed all types of music and loved dancing. She possessed such a beautiful voice so it goes without saying that she also enjoyed singing (she and her Montgomery Avenue Crew loved pretending they were the girlfriends of the Jackson Five and would make great dance moves to their music). Her love of family had no bounds. Because of her caring and loving nature, Carmen and Raymond cared for, nurtured, and raised her goddaughters, Jazmine and Briana, as their own.
She was involved with the Big Brother and Big Sisters of America. She was a big sister to Carolyn Collins for many years. She also sponsored a child by the name of Ruma Begum of Bangladesh through Childreach.
On April 12, 2021 Carmen was called home. She passed away at Jefferson Hospital with her husband, mother-in-law, and sister-in-law at her bedside.
She is preceded in death by both her father Ronald Jones Sr. and her brother Ronald Jones Jr. She leaves behind her husband Raymond of 23 years, her mother Margaret, brothers Antonius Sr. and Markus, mother-in-law Nydia, brother-in-law Ruben, sister-in-laws Tina (Sissy) and Judy. Her step-children Lauren and Raymond Jr., nephew Antonius Jr., nieces Victoria, Brandy, Kimelah, Goddaughters Jazmine, Briana, and Renee. She also leaves a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends and especially, her sorority sisters from Delta Sigma Theta Inc.
Relatives, friends, and her sorority sisters are invited to attend her visitation on Friday, April 23, 2021. from 11:00 am. to 12:30 pm., followed by services at 12:30 pm., at Angelone Funeral Home, 501 Easton Road, Willow Grove, PA 19090.
