Obituary

Andrea Francesca Bulat, 62, of Port Richmond, a former Philadelphia public defender and licensed nurse, died on Tuesday Jan. 3, at Temple University Hospital due to complications from burn injuries.

Ms. Bulat was the only daughter born to Maria Bulat (nee Curcio) and Edward Bulat, here in Philadelphia at Nazareth hospital on May, 4th 1954.

After graduating from Widener Law School, she joined the Defender Association of Philadelphia where she tirelessly fought for those who needed most the assistance they could not afford to defend themselves. She won many unwinnable cases. Her opposing prosecutors were sometimes chastised for losing "easy" cases. Previously as a licensed nurse she had a similar work ethic for the elderly.

A vast world traveler Ms. Bulat visited many countries including Mongolia, China, Morocco, Nepal, India, Afghanistan, Mexico, Peru, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Turkey, Spain and more.

She cherished her dogs and cats over the years and was very supportive of many animal facilities. She was also a foster parent to dogs.

Survived by loving family and friends. Loving sister of Edward and to her mother Maria.

Per Ms. Bulat's wishes no ceremony will be held and her ashes will be spread per her instructions.
