Amor
Guinaldo
Mar 15, 1940 — Jan 16, 2018
Amor Prendes Guinaldo of Hatboro passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 surrounded by her loving family. And although they did not want to say goodbye, they knew she was to be reunited with her parents, Abelino and Anita (Bueno) Prendes, her sister, Nieves and her protective older brother, Armando Prendes.
Amor was 77 and the beloved wife of Stephen A. Guinaldo for 55 years. They first met at the Spanish American Center as young kids and later became high-school sweethearts. Shortly after their marriage, they moved from Canton, Ohio to the Philadelphia area, started a family and created a life of many cherished memories.
Amor loved passionately and was loved deeply by all her children: Judy (Mark), Stephenie (Eric) and Stephen (Melanie), as well as all of her adoring grandchildren: Hunter Prendes, Garret, Mackenzie Amor, Nieves, Chad, Malia Amor, Ryan, Kayla and Cole. She was affectionately known as Abuela ("Wela") to her grandchildren as well as their friends.
Amor is also survived by her dear "sister", Ida Prendes, her three "favorite" nephews: Stephen (Glenna), Raymond (Nancy) and Robert (Deb) as well as her many nieces & nephews: Jennifer, Nicole, Stephen, Brandon, Matthew and Mark, along with her great nieces and nephews.
Amor was committed to her family and volunteered her time in her children's schools and extra-curricular activities. As her own children grew, she worked part-time in the elementary school for eight years and then full-time as a Special Education teacher's assistant at Keith Valley Middle School in the Hatboro-Horsham School District for another 18 years. She thrived helping others and made wonderful life-long friends with her fellow teachers. Following her retirement, "Mrs. G." returned to volunteering at her grandchildren's schools.
Amor was an avid sports fan and was constantly seen attending and cheering at all of her grandchildren's various sporting events. As a staple at these games, she grew to be extremely fond of all the kids on the team as well as their families.
She was a proud long-time fan of the Philadelphia Eagles ("Eagles wife") and was also a Penn State sports fan, as both daughters are alumnae and a granddaughter is a current student. More recently, she became an excited USC fan where her grandson is a student. Frequently, Wela could be seen "FaceTiming" for long periods of time with her two grandchildren who are away at college, enjoying the opportunity to hear about their experiences and even to watch the USC games or "walk" campus together.
Amor loved the beach. She treasured the time she spent on her annual vacations to Ocean City, NJ and to Fort Lauderdale, Florida with her daughters' families and her girls' trips to the Jersey shore with her "bridesmaids".
She also lived for her very frequent outings with her friends, whether it was a trip to Cape Ann, Massachusetts, the shore, a party, the theatre, to watch a favorite TV show, a lunch or dinner. There was no such thing as too many social events for her. Amor loved music and was compelled to dance at any time.
Amor was a beacon of light, love and laughter. She was charismatic and loved being around others and sharing stories and better yet, hearing others' stories. Amor was a great listener who genuinely wanted to know your story, no matter how great or how bad your situation. She touched others with her caring and inviting demeanor. She will be missed terribly by so many.
